EPISUR ensures food alternatives in the current epidemiological situation

episurSanta Cruz del Sur, Camagüey, Apr 5 - With the aim of contributing to the entry of foreign currency into the country for exports and to feeding the people of Camagüey in the midst of the current epidemiological situation that Cuba is going through, in the Industrial Fishing Company of Santa Cruz del Sur, EPISUR, produces various products for the inhabitants of the provincial capital and other municipalities.

The fish stew, fish log in oil and tomato, fried and natural tomato puree, the croquette dough, the bread dough, syrup sweets and potato packages, are some of the forms that are produced in the entity , from the industrial processing of marine species and viands and fruits.


According to Serguey Salgado Cardero, quality specialist in the installation, these productions are distributed in the entity's 16 points of sale in the province, which are marketed under the D 'Lamares brand, from the company itself.
Of these types of establishments there are four in the city of Agramontina, three in the municipality of Nuevitas, in addition to one in Florida, Vertientes, Guáimaro and the rest in southern communities, such as Cándido González, Haiti, La Jagua and the main city, where they are located. assortments present.

The industrialization of species destined for export is another of the tasks in which the workers of EPISUR are involved and for this purpose, about ten tons of shrimp are processed daily, which is harvested in the Base Cultisur Business Unit, from this own territory.
Marine varieties such as snapper, cubera, biajaiba and rabirrubia, are also destined for the foreign market and to achieve the quality and safety requirements demanded by the client, fish are classified by size and those that show any damage are separated, Salgado Cardero commented.

The industry also processes sea cucumber, a species of high value in the international market.
Here in the company a group of twenty young people, grouped into four crews, is dedicated to their capture, an activity that requires great physical effort due to the diving it requires and the selection criteria.
From agreements with producers in the south of Camagüey, at the company's Verdesolas food alternatives plant, tomato purée is produced in different formats of one liter or four liters and, in addition, it is stored for later commercialization.
On the other hand, in the Nuevitas Fishing Base Business Unit, an entity belonging to EPISUR, its workers are also involved in the preparation of various foods for consumption by the population of the territory and in the city of Camagüey.

The entity's director, Roger Esparraguerra, reported that at the end of March they sold 11 tons of kibble dough, 3 of guava juice, hamburger, steamed viands in bags, such as pre-fried tostones and 16 tons of processed potatoes.
The same were offered to the inhabitants of that northern territory at the three points of sale and in the so-called "Against the Wind and Tide," which has tables and chairs, citizens are offered minutes, potatoes and fried fish wheels , tomato salad, crab dough enchilado and pounded with fish, where people have the possibility to consume it there or take them home.

 

In turn, they have a mobile point that in the current epidemiological contingency, reaches the popular councils and entities in sectors such as public health, the port, the Termoeléctrica 10 de Octubre and the dairy compound, for sale to workers. The fishery productions of the fishermen from Nuevo León also contribute to the results of the Santa Cruz fishing company and, in this sense, they captured 27 tons of fish in March, one of which was cobo dough for export. At EPISUR's headquarters, its base business units and centers in other municipalities, multiple measures are adopted to maintain hygiene, protect workers, and thus prevent the spread and spread of members of this group with the new coronavirus. . Isaías Martínez Espinoza, a defense technician at the company, explained that the work performance of workers over 60 years of age with respiratory conditions such as the flu is limited and people who have recently traveled have been isolated.

At the same time, other actions are implemented in each department and by area, such as hand washing and disinfection, with the 1% sodium hypochlorite solution, the separation of workstations and tables in the dining room, to delimit the distances between people, in addition to the rigorous control of the entrance of vehicles to the entity and extreme measures in sanitary barriers for access to the industry. In the midst of the current epidemiological contingency, the Industrial Fishing Company of Santa Cruz del Sur EPISUR, one of the main entities of the sector in the province and which is the flagship in this municipality, plans to continue increasing its productions, for feeding the Camagüeyans.
