A total of 94 complaints involving 101 citizens have been filed by the Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Camagüey for breaches of the measures adopted by the country to prevent and confront Covid 19 and which constitute crimes typified in the Penal Code in force in Cuba.

At a press conference Idelsy Martinez Laurencio, head of the Legal Group of the Provincial Defense Council, assured that, in that order, the largest number of violations correspond to illegal economic activity, speculation and hoarding, spread of the epidemic, disobedience, contempt of authorities and infractions in consumer protection regulations.

Fines ranging from 500 to 3 thousand pesos have been imposed on half of those involved, while the most serious behaviors have received custodial penalties to be carried out in correctional facilities or subsidized for correctional work without internment in activities priority for the country, and fines have also been combined with deprivation of liberty.

So far, the Prosecutor's Office has presented in municipal courts ten cases that have already been sentenced, among which it is worth mentioning due to the seriousness of the events, one in the municipality of Florida, for the illegal commercialization of chlorine and another in Nuevitas, by the non-compliance with sanitary provisions, disobedience to authority and resistance to abide by the indicated. In both cases, the penalties ranged from 6 months to 1 year and two months of deprivation of liberty.

Martínez Laurencio meant that in illicit commercialization, there is a wide range of products that are subject to this crime due to the wide demand in the population, such as potatoes, soap, detergent, tomato paste, food pasta, oil and meat of pig, and complaints are received through the Management Center of the Provincial Defense Council 32-292182 or 32-292282, in the units of the National Revolutionary Police or through the single line of the Attorney General of the Republic of Cuba by numbers 802 12345, 32 288092 or 32 290575

The head of the Legal Group of the Provincial Defense Council added that Resolution 82 of the Ministry of Public Health establishes that patients who exceed Covid 19 and are discharged from the clinic must be kept in mandatory restrictive isolation for 15 days to receive the epidemiological discharge, measure that, if not complied with, could typify as a crime of aggravated epidemic propagation, for which a custodial sentence of between 3 and 8 years is stipulated.

In all cases, speed in the processes is guaranteed, while the rights of citizens are preserved, and occupied products have been made available to the Provincial Defense Council and delivered to prioritized institutions such as Grandparents' Homes and Nursing Homes. .

The Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Camagüey reiterates that the measures to prevent and confront the new coronavirus are strictly observed, and its violation will receive the corresponding severity, without ceasing to specify in each case, as has been done, to date in the 94 complaints filed involving 101 citizens.
